I recreated my bathroom floor using the toilet paper rolls that accumulate on my bathroom floor. After moving to Portland I became more attuned to my domestic self. For six years I scored, folded every disgarded cardboard roll and filled each one with plaster. This project marks time, the domestic rhythms of my days and the unexpected beauty of their accumulation. The smooth white hexagonal tile, occasionally interspersed with blue, connects the stages of my life with a consistent pattern. The work stands as a tribute to artists like Julia Fish and Mierle Ukeles who have guided me to see beauty in the commonplace.  The image of the tile evokes a shared memory, a celebration of homes of a certain age, the contrast of public building and private space, and ultimately a sense of loss.
